Eco Potli was born out of the urge to self-learn, educate, and help others understand the importance of sustainability. Amruta and Neelima shared their thoughts one evening during the infamous lockdown of Covid-19 Pandemic. Thoughts conformed and things started rolling…and voila…
Eco Potli was born!
In our culture, we have a saying in Marathi viz. "आजी चा बटवा" which translates to "grandmother's pouch" which was used in reference to having solutions for all common illnesses. Simply stating, it means that when you encounter any problem, look into the past for solutions. You will find that tried and tested methods, be it medicines or lifestyle approach have been passed down through generations. Recently we have lost touch of this precious pouch of knowledge and wisdom. Today, when we are encountering numerous environmental problems, lets turn to this "बटवा" or "Potli" of our forefathers for any probable solutions.
This Pandemic made the world pause and ponder over their choices and priorities. Apart from all the devastation Covid-19 caused worldwide; it also gave us a chance to reflect on our lifestyle and our health choices. The word “Immunity” suddenly gained importance and people became more aware of their food choices. During the initial phases of the pandemic, there was immense shortage of essential goods. That is when the need and demand for fresh and organic produce became evident. The people were struggling to manage house work, office work, kids, etc. all at once working from home.
We decided to open a business that would deliver fresh organic quality produce at their doorstep without cutting a big hole in their wallets. We wanted families and elderly people living alone better access to fresh organic fruits, vegetables, grocery and even cut fruits and vegetables to make their lives a bit easier. We wanted to help people transition from non-organic to organic without affecting their monthly budget to an enormous extent.
Eco Potli plans to venture into more sustainability products in the future. Eco Potli wants to create a passage for people willing to put in their efforts towards a Sustainable living environment. Individual priorities differ greatly and not everyone can pledge towards a complete sustainable lifestyle. But, every small change, any small effort will count towards achieving the bigger picture. We only need to be conscious of how our choices directly or indirectly affect this Sustainability revolution.
Come…let’s live better lives…and carve out better future for our kids!
It is a widespread myth that organic products are very costly. Organic farming relies on manures and natural insect repellents for its produce. Thus, organic produce quantity per unit of farm is lesser than conventional produce grown using pesticides and fertilizers. Organic farming also demands more attention, knowledge, and efforts from the farmer’s side. Organic produce also needs meticulous attention during bulk storage. Thus, organic produce is a bit costly than the conventional produce. The number of middlemen in the chain from farmers to consumer further makes the organic products go out of budget for the common man. Eco Potli is meticulously establishing connections with farmers directly to bring benefit to farmers as well as consumers. We aim at making organic products affordable to everybody.
India ranks 8th in terms of World's Organic Agricultural land and 1st in terms of total number of producers as per 2020 data (Source: FIBL & IFOAM Year Book, 2020). The world is awakening to the importance of Organic Produce and India is catching up fast. Indian civilization has roots to sustainability since ancient times. Our scriptures are proof of how our forefathers understood the importance or the symbiotic association and inter-dependability of all life on Earth. It is time we reiterate the values and lifestyle our forefathers followed. There has been an upsurge in the demand for organic fruits, vegetables, and grocery in the past few years due to the awareness among customers about their health benefits. People are becoming increasingly aware about the harmful effects of using synthetic and commercial fertilizers and pesticides in the farming process. This demand for organic food has compelled farmers worldwide to shift to organic farming practices. Organic Farming is not only helping farmers to achieve a better harvest but also helps in restoring the soil richness. Extensive research in this area has given a boost to this industry. Eco Potli aims at providing the means to procure good quality organic products. Going organic can be your small contribution towards our sustainable planet.
All life processes on Earth are inter-dependent. Humans have played a major role in disturbing this delicate balance. Our greediness knows no bounds and we have over exploited our oceans, our forests, our atmosphere to the extent that other living species are going extinct at a rapid rate. This attitude and our choices have come back to bite us. We are facing the heat of our short-sighted actions in the past few decades. It is high time we pause, reflect, and act accordingly. Our wise choices will not only benefit the environment but also our own health and well-being. Let’s take care of Mother Nature and she will reciprocate accordingly.
For a long time we have known that “Health is Wealth”, but we have been saving money by acting miserly in the wrong places. It is a sad reality that the three pillars of good life – healthy and nutritious food, regular exercise, and quality sleep; have been side-lined and other things have taken their place. It is time we recheck our priorities. If we are able to prioritise these three things, all other things will fall into place sooner or later. Invest in your health now, make better food choices, and live a better quality life! Go behind saving the Pounds, instead or running behind the pennies!
If we chose to follow the same self-destructive path, humans will be responsible for their own extinction one day. Let’s pause, take a step back, try to find wisdom in the actions of the past generations, research, find alternative paths, and build a better future for us and for our kids. Every little action counts. Let us start from ourselves. Let’s learn about our impact on our environment and pledge to make a direct or indirect contribution. Our choices will ingrain these values in our children. Let’s not make them struggle for basic necessities due to our reckless behaviour. Let’s start our journey towards a sustainable planet!
